Guided Forest Immersion – June 23rd
A Guided Forest Immersion is an opportunity to take time for yourself to unplug, slow down, and deepen your relationship with the natural world. It is sometimes known as Forest Bathing, Forest Therapy, or in Japan as Shinrin-yoku and is a guided outdoor quiet relaxing practice.
A Forest Immersion is not a hike. It does not have a destination like a hike, it is done mostly in silence, and focuses on connecting with and appreciating the natural world directly in front of us. It’s mindful exercise for the heart and soul while hiking is physical exercise for the heart and sole.
The Guided Forest Immersion will be led by Kirke Olson, PsyD, who is an ANFT Certified Forest Therapy Guide. Kirke has had a lifetime connection with the natural world by living almost exclusively in rural New England settings. From his homebase on a gravel road in New Hampshire he has pursued a career in Clinical and School Psychology where he has been dedicated to helping people discover and amplify what is right with them.
Where: Ransmeier Property in Hopkinton, meet at the parking lot next to the Hopkinton Police Department at 1696 Hopkinton Road (Rt 103)
When: 2:00 PM Sunday, June 23rd
Cost: $20 per person
Thank you to Kirke Olson for donating his professional services to make this event possible. Proceeds will benefit Five Rivers Conservation Trust.
Kirke will begin with introductions and then walk a bit to gather for an orientation. During the Immersion he will offer several 15 to 20-minute-long gentle invitations to activities designed to help participants connect with the land and the spirit of the place. Participants may walk between or during these invitations, but not very far and reconvene at the end of each one. Tea will be shared at the end of the Immersion. Plan for about 1 ½ hours.
