Historic Potter Farm in Concord Added to U.S. Dept. of Agriculture Website StoryMap

When Five Rivers is in the process of conserving a working farm in our region, a potential federal funding organization is the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) Agricultural Land Easement Program (ACEP-ALE). For working farms to remain actively in agriculture, NRCS may contribute up to 50% of the fair market value of the agricultural land easement.

Right here in Concord, NRCS/ACEP-ALE funding played a critical role in the successful conservation of the 250-year-old Potter Farm on Oak Hill Road. Conserved by Five Rivers in August 2024, the project was made possible in part by funding from NRCS/ACEP-ALE, which paid 50% of the easement’s purchase price.

Just recently, NRCS added the Potter Farm to their interactive StoryMap, which showcases some of its most successful Agricultural Land Easement stories from across the United States.

Recognized as a Bicentennial Farm in 1976 on the 200th anniversary of the founding of our country, it is fitting to see Potter Farm recognized again in 2026 on the country’s 250th anniversary.
