Join us to explore the forests and vernal pools of the Boisvert & Normand Nature Preserve, a Five Rivers conserved property in Loudon! This 79-acre parcel, formerly known as the Soucook River Woodlot, was protected in 2004 through a collaboration between The Nature Conservancy and Five Rivers. It was managed by Bronnenberg Logging, LLC until purchased by Mike Boisvert and Jon Normand in 2023, who have worked eagerly to open the property to the public as a nature preserve.
Mike and Jon will share their vision for the preserve as we walk along the well-marked trails (with some elevation changes) through managed forests, a pollinator garden and the Soucook River shoreline and floodplain. Enjoy signs of spring and returning birds as Wetland Scientists Lee Carbonneau and Sarah Allen guide us to several vernal pools to see wood frog and spotted salamander egg masses (and/or tadpoles) and invertebrates and discuss the ecological importance of these temporary water bodies in the landscape.
