Vernal Pool and Floodplain Walk – April 25 in Loudon

Twenty participants joined us for a beautiful spring walk at the Boisvert & Normand Nature Preserve (conserved with Five Rivers in 2004) in Loudon on April 25. The group explored vernal pools, floodplain forests, the pollinator garden, the Soucook River floodplain, and the scenic glacial esker ridge.

Led by wetland scientists Lee Carbonneau and Sarah Allen, participants learned about the preserve’s unique habitats, including the important role vernal pools play as breeding grounds for wood frogs, spotted salamanders, and other wildlife.

Owners Mike Boisvert and Jon Normand also shared their vision for the preserve and its balance of conservation, education, and public access. The morning offered signs of spring throughout—from birdsong and early wildflowers to floodplains along the Soucook River—it was a great opportunity to see an excellent example of stewardship in action.
